The Royal
Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s magnificent castle, the Military Tattoo is one of the most iconic events in Edinburgh’s calendar. Each year it brings together a host of international performers, military & civilian, from over 48 countries. Music, dance, precision displays and the bands of the Royal Marines, not forgetting the poignant refrain of the haunting lament by the Lone Piper. The Tattoo can only be described as one of the greatest shows on earth and is highly renowned worldwide.

Tour Itinerary

Following our pick-up this morning, we will travel to Belfast for the 11:30hrs Stena ferry to Cairnryan. We will travel towards Ayr where we will have a comfort break before the next stage of our journey towards Glasgow and on to Whitburn. This year we will be staying at the 3 star-Best Western HILCROFT HOTEL.
All bedrooms are en-suite with Wi-Fi, television, telephone, hairdryer & hospitality tray. It is a modern hotel in a convenient location for our travel to Edinburgh. Our estimated time of arrival at our hotel is16:00hrs. Time to settle in before our evening meal. Dinner Bed & Breakfast tonight.

NOTE: We do not return to the hotel until after the show. Dinner is not included tonight.

It will be a long day today, so we recommend comfortable shoes. We’ll travel into Edinburgh.
First we will drop off those wishing to spend the full day in the city centre for all the festivities.
The coach will then go out to Leith, where you can visit the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre or perhaps visit the Royal Yacht Britannia which is tied up here.
In the afternoon, we will travel from Leith back into Edinburgh for some free time to enjoy the atmosphere and festival activities.
Due to strict parking regulations at this busy time please listen carefully as our driver gives instructions of what time and exactly where in the city we must re join the coach (usually Waterloo Place at 18:45).
We must then move to our dedicated parking area in Chambers Street for the evening.
This is our dedicated drop off point and the coach must remain here until the conclusion of the Tattoo.
Please ensure you return to this point after the event tonight.
Time then to join the throng of visitors all making their way up to the Castle for the 21:00hrs show.

As we begin our journey homeward bound, we will travel towards the outskirts of Ayr. We will have a comfort break at Dobbies Garden Centre – a convenient location which can provide restaurant and toilet facilities.
We will then resume our journey to Cairnryan where we will check in for the 15:30hrsferry home to Belfast and it’s time to say our good-byes.
NB: Your driver will confirm/ amend departure times as necessary for the duration of the tour.
